Pre-Production

I have listed out the things that i would need in-order for my to complete my short-film, and the genre is a thriller.
Time
For my film I will need to manage my time wisely, although I may be busy during the week as I have college, there are long break hours in my timetable so I will be able to use those as well as weekends to give me the best amount of time to come up with a polished film. Meeting deadlines in the media industry is highly important, if you don’t you do not get paid or u don’t get paid a lot even worse you get fired and go broke. In my timetable I have about 13 hours of break in a week and I would use 6 hours in the week plus my weekends, this will enable me to achieve the maximum goal of my film. When it comes to equipment wise my school will provide what I need, I would only need to buy a few props of my own which would cost me roughly about 200 to 300 pounds.

Location

As we know my film is based on bikes and skate parks, I will be shooting my short-film around Woolwich, which has some sides that are ghetto and hood; this makes it an ideal area to film my web series there. But for the house seen it would still be in Woolwich, but just a different part of Woolwich. It will be about 15 mins away from the skate park. It will also be easy for all my members that are filming with me to get to the location as they all live around or in Woolwich. This means that we are able to save time and get more time to film out in Woolwich.

Finance

The best way I could possibly manage my finances is by using my own savings, so that when my film has been polished I will be gaining more money from my web series. For my web series I won’t really need a large sum of money, because I have everything in reach and nothing too extraordinary that I may need. Normally hiring or buying camera’s can range from 100pounds and above the best ones range from 3k and above, but I do not need to buy one as my college will be providing me with one once I have booked it. The only thing that I may be funding myself is my actors through savings of mine, but it wouldn’t be a lot of money as they all live local. Once my web series is complete I would be able to use the college’s editing suit as it is free, but if I was to use one in the real world we are looking at 300pounds per day. My web series will be shot at day time and it is mostly outside or at close range so microphones won’t be necessary. My film may require real life bmx riders to pull off the chase and different types of stunts, hiring them would cost around 200 per person, but because I know and have friends to already are bmx riders I will be getting them to act on it with a lower price. An editing suit can be from £300 a day in the real world, but i will get one for free as my college will let me use it, by booking it. Also in real world when in an edit suit, it was good to edit quick but making sure the sequences make sense, the quicker its done the less money you will need to pay. I will need the suit roughly 3 days, in odrder to make sure that everything flows and that it involves continuity and sound-effects.

Equipment
In reality in order to make sure that my short film was of good equality there would be something’s that I would need to achieve that. In terms of camera lighting and an edit suite, there would be no need for me to go and buy and rent a Mac sweet, it is free in my college by booking. To enhance my film, I may want to get a high quality camera, with a microphone this will only pick up what is in front of the camera and no sounds in the background, although you can edit the background sound off in the edit suite but it would be ideal to have a camera that already does that for you, this means that you can have more time to edit other things. In case of a rainy day, I would need a waterproof light stand, this will enable me to carry on with the filming rather than stopping and waiting for another day, as that is valuable time being wasted. The cost of a camera and light would add up to around 400pounds, but I can get decent ones from my college for free, this saves me a lot of money.

Contributors
Even though I already have my own team, that is going to be filming with me, I will need help from contributors to polish up and give effect to my 1 min short film.  To enhance my film I will need contributors that are taking Performing Arts, or something drama related this is because they would be the most ideal people for the job and have an understanding of how to act professional. Before I can get anyone to be a part of my film they need to sign a release and consent agreement letter, saying that I have permission to film and that their identity is allowed to appear on my film and anywhere it goes.

Crew and Personnel
My production team will range from around 3-4 people, therefore the roles will be split equally across the board. To gain actors each member of my team will ask around college or their local area, but they would have to be people who have experience of acting, this way it keeps the pressure off a team member rather than making them find actors on their own. In a real life situation neither or my team members will ask around college or local area, we will hold an audition for people to attend that way is more professional and realistic.
I would need a sound engineer to will watch over the sound quality and SPL
A camera man to operate the camera
Director which is me, I will be directing the film
Editor who will make the shots flow in continuity, so that the shots tell a story
In my group I also have a camera operator, this means that they have to use all the shots, lS, CU , WS , OS ,ES and many more, main job is to go to the location and capture significant images.
I chose these set of people because they showed skill and persistence, I have given the camera man his place because he does photography and is able to use a camera and capture good shots, from different angles. I gave myself director because i am organised and is able to lead a team and get the work done, good leadership skills. I chose the sound engineer because they are good with the IT works and they are able to use Final cut, to produce good work when it comes to sound. Also i gave camera operator the position because they are good with storyboard, so they know how to go about shooting the film in accuracy.

Codes and Regulations

For my film to achieve its goals in the industry, there are regulations which have to be followed firstly before anything. The location we will be filming in, we would need to get a release permission form, for the owner of the land/area to sign, saying that they have given us permission to use this location. Also for proof I would need to take pictures of the locations and possibly videos to make it realistic and not made up. In the location that I have chosen to work in I would need to fill out a risk assessment, this links to health and safety, so if there are any dangerous bits in the location I would have to note it down, then go back with the team and debate how we can approach and tackle the problem.Despite the fact that, we will be filming in an isolated area, we still can’t use dangerous weapons and it might cause alarm and panic if anyone happens to be walking by, and there will be serious consequences for having a dangerous weapon in the open space. The BBFC would rate my film a 15 because there are only minor violent scenes in it, and if it does not meet the standards of an 15 then some scenes will need to be cut or reevaluated.

Materials
In terms of copyrights, my film won’t be using any. But in the real world in order to use someone’s idea, you would need to talk to the person or the company and talk about fee’s and how much it would cost in order to use their item. But we do not need to use that in our own Shortfilm, me and the members in my team are able to use logic pro and final cut. This gives us a breather as we can make our own soundtrack, and sound effects, this saves us from paying for copyrights. The effects that are on final cut are copyright free, so we do not need to pay for anything. With Logic pro we are able to download music or sound track for free and drag it to play.
