The Rattler

This short film is a horror; it creates a lot on tension and anxiety for the audience. We can see at the start it says ‘’The Rattler’’ the fact that the title is in red, suggest something bad is about to occur. Red signifies the devil, therefore this only means something forsaken is about to take place in this house.

When we look at this next imagine, it looks like a flower that has not yet opened up. The fact that its red as well also stimulates a sense of death and fear. There is a black star at the top of the opening, this tells us that the dark sides are trying to prevent the flower from opening, furthermore there are like needles inside the flower, this may have been used to paralyze it.

Looking at this scene there are a range of different props in her possession. She has a apple mac , mouse , glass cup , notepad , a phone. The most important prop here is the computer, as it creates suspense amongst the audience as she gets an unknown call. This may get the audience excited or worried that something unusual is about to happen. When we look at the painter in the background there is a red slash going across the board, this signifies a deep cut, this links back to the title ‘’Rattler’’ as he slashes off skin and eats them.

In this scene lighting helps creates a sense of atmosphere. low-key lighting is used here, where it is not very dark or very light.

we can see in the background black knifes this may suggest the weapon the Rattler used to attack her. The fact that its black also suggest fear and tension, as knifes can be used for a range of different things. Also there is a strong sense of light coming from her computer this is called naturalistic lighting; this makes the settings more realistic.

After she received the phone call saying someone is behind her door, we get a extreme close up on the door handle as the rattler is trying to break free and enter the room. At the rate the door handle is moving we can gather an insight of this person, we can tell they are rather violent, determined to enter and also that they have muscular strength to be able to break in at a fast pase. The is also another close up on when the doorknob is at her feet, this shows off the Rattlers muscular strength and it creates agitation and concentration within the audience as they know something bad is about to occur. This can suggest that the girl is trapped in closed doors and has nowhere to run or to even hide. Lastly there is a shot of the Rattler through the door hole, this makes a jumpy atmosphere within the audience as, it was a surprise, the director did this purposely to terrify the audience and capture them in a terrifying bubble.
