500 Word treatment
(i) How it will create or develop Image for the artist (descriptive words that link your idea to how it is creating a personality for the artist - sexy, rebellious, vulnerable, creative, underdog, criminal etc.)
There will be various ways in which we will be able to portray our Artist’s image as well as developing her image to give her more meaning and more of a identity than she already has. Our Artist is sexy but she’s also a deception we figured this out through the lyrics of the song furthermore she will also be portrayed as evil and distinctive. This will be shown by her wearing different black outfits to get off a dark atmosphere; this will allow the audience to get engaged straight away as they know black always results in bad consequences. The fact that she is black shows us that she is evil and by her wearing black it will reflect on some of the lyrics and portray her as the deception which she claims to be.
(Dejhanea)
For my music video idea it is slightly on trend with hip- hop music videos as some of the lyrics are interpreted on screen which relates to a hip-hop genre convention.
However, my idea will be different as it uses different elements from different genres e.g. as the song is also pop/hip hop as the beat and tempo of the song is slow.
An example of a trend for the genre is Dominance:
For this trend dominance is important especially in hip-hop genres because it is about the main artist showing off what they have got and their image. In my case, my main artist is going to be the dominant image in the video as it revolves around her.
An example of a genre that shows this trend is Monster by Emeniem, this was also my intertextual reference for my idea of my initial idea.
(iv) How and where it will be filmed over how many days (ie how will the shoot be split into sections etc)
.(Deniesha)
1st day: The first scenes will be seen in a dark
room so this will be the first day of shooting as this is when the main
character will be sitting on a coach watching a video of his life, (links into
the intersexuality of ‘the monster’ music video where he is viewing his life.
2nd day: We will do the middle bit, as the
lyrics will be interpreted. This will be where she is where he breaks
down and starts the artist will be watching him as
he is seen a vulnerable. Dolly shoot. He will see her and he will be having her
in his head.
3rd
day: The third day is the ending when he wakes up and realized that it was
all an illusion and that this was all unreal. Then he wakes up on the road

Chroma key guide
The first thing I had to do was
to record by 10 seconds section by my unsigned artist who goes by the name Lk.
During the set up you would have to position 3 to 4 light kits to specific
locations so that you do not see the shadow of the object on the green wall
behind, if this is not done the background will not come out well and
everything will look more faker than its supposed to be. Then once that was
done you would have the track you want set up next to the camera so it can pick
up the sound, and also so that you can lip sync it correctly. Whilst recording
there were two different shots which were captured we did a forward angle and a
side angle so a mix and match little bit of variety.
In terms of looking for a
location, I used shutter stock, because that was the easiest and fastest way
for me to look for a location, rather than going through Google or YouTube. Once
I found my location I dragged it onto the footage, so rather than there being
only a black background, the shutterstock footage takes up that space and
projects which ever location you pick.
Chroma key can be positively, and
they could be a complete disaster but then again this depends on the artist as
well as the producer. If we take a look at David Hasselhoff – hooked on a
feeling, this music video had bad use of chroma key, it was just terrible,
there is a scene where we can see him trying to fly, but it just looks like he’s
dangling from the air, and it just does not look believable or realistic rather.
But the reason I suppose he used chroma key in which he did is because he is
not a singer he is an actor, and he might not have touched to lose the acting
touch and decided to be in front of a green screen and just add different
locations in the background, furthermore I also think he did this because using
chroma key for the use of locations saves you money, and it’s very cheap to do.
In terms of the effects, bringing on something that is supposed to represent a
cube with multiple footage on it just doesn’t work it looks too surreal. But
then again this music video went viral probably because of the terrible use of
chroma key, but money is still being made from the views right? This tells us
that hes arrogant because he knows regardless he’s still getting money out of
this.
Now in terms of very good and accurate
use of chroma key we have, Katy perry and kanyewest, this music video is about
a trip to earth, supposed she’s portraying herself to be some sort of alien.
Chroma key was used very effectively because the lyrics and visuals were making
sense. Also there was no other way on earth she would have been able to make
this music video without using chroma key, because she couldn’t exactly go into
space to film this could she? Hence why she used chroma key because it reflects
her lyrics. The use of blue tint makes it more realistic that yes she was from
space and the supposed alien she claims to be.
Another main purpose of why
chroma key is used is for hyper reality, to create something not really fake
but something that doesn’t happen in reality, something which doesn’t happen on
day to day bases. Chroma key can allow the artist to be experimental and trying
to be different, as I said before people may use chroma key because they can’t
afford to get hold of certain locations for their music video and its cheaper
to use chroma key and to put a couple effects over to make it more realistic

Camera movements and angles
Camera Angles
There are multiple camera angles which can be used when it
comes to making a music video, each of these angles have their own meaning,
they could be used to add an atmosphere or to show a relationship between 2
subjects.
Low Angle: This is very different to a High angles. In terms to achieve
this correctly we would place the camera below the subject, we would use high
angles to give the subject an image and portray them a certain way to their audience.
For example if we look at N.W.A straight
outta Compton, at 08 seconds we can see that there is use of low angle which portrays the subjects as being very powerful and dominant, because low
angle was incorporated it is giving them an image of bravery and inspiring. They
are also rapping about the criminal activity and expressing their anger against
the police, again using low angle shows that they are on top of their game and
they can’t be stopped.
Bird’s eye View: Birds eye view are
similar to High angle, bird’s eye view could be used as an establishing shot.
The best way to get a perfect bird’s eye view is by using a drone, and letting
it fly over the location or just stay static so the audience get a view of the surroundings.
An example of birds eye view would be New
Park Road remix we can see during the start of the music video, the drone
is flying over the location to show the audience possibly how they run the area
or just what the location looks like. And it also gives off the idea that God
is looking down on them.
Track away: This is when the camera moves away from the subject, and the
subject keeps walking towards the camera, this is done to create some sort of
meaning, the way the meaning is interpreted depends on the artist in general
and how they portray their music video. Now if we look at straight outta Compton again we can see that
there is a lot of tracking shots this shows off power and control, control because
they are able to control where the camera goes which is effectively the audience.
The way you would go about doing this is by putting the camera on a dolly and
then moving it away from the subject in order to get that perfect and sweet
flow, then again depends on what genre of music it is, different genres would
use it in different ways.
Dolly in: This is really straight forward, this is when the camera
zooms into the object very slowly, you may put the camera on a dolly and then
move towards you’re object aswell both ways are rather effective. This could
have effects on the audience, trying to put them into the subjects mind or to see
what he is feeling and going through.
Handheld: Handheld camera movement is very significant, because you do
not need a tripod or any equipment just the camera and you’re hands. The way
you would want to film something and how you would want to portray it would be
up to you, because there are no specific rules in terms of using handheld
camera, all that matters is how you use it, and if it suits the style because as
we know different genre’s use movements and angles differently. Again in the Excess music video handheld camera was
used mostly through out that music video, because they are teens all getting
drunk and having the time of their life, the idea of using a handheld camera
was showing realism making it look realistic. Furthermore there were some parts
the boy and the girl were not getting along and then the camera would start
shaking, this would be reflecting the everyday life and struggles in
relationships hence why they used handheld camera to make it more realistic and
believable.
Arc: This is when the camera spins around the
artist, an example of this would be in Excess
when the camera is just circling around him, and this tells us that the
world is revolving around him, and he might be confused or trapped and does not
know what to do next.
Crash Zoom: Crash zoom is usually used to create
an atmosphere and to possibly set a mood for the audience. Crash zoom can be
just randomly, there could be a shot of something previously then all of a
sudden on a zoom on a specific item or the subject, since the camera is
interested in that item or subject, it tells the audience that’s what they
should be focusing on. For this to work the camera would have to move quickly
towards the subject so that it looks effective and professional.
Tilt: This is when the camera is slanted to the side purposely to give of a meaning about something that is happening in the music video. Depending on the genre of music you can approach this in various ways, for example if it was in terms of a rock music video it would be a handheld camera, and because rock is usually violent and hard core, it would be ideal to use a handheld camera to portray something is going on. An example of tilt is Pryce oliver – excess at 1:00 we can see that the tilt angle as been in corporate to show that she is distorted and confused, because she just finished taking shots, so the camera angle is reflecting her feelings almost putting us in the same atmosphere with her.

Cutting to the Beat
One significant technique which
can be applied when editing a music video is cutting to the beat, this simply
means when the music video cuts from one beat to another but obviously still
moving the image that is being shown on screen. I would say cutting to the beat
would keep the audience intrigued and interested, and also cutting to the beat
could create a type of atmosphere depending on the music video and the genre.
Before starting to do any slicing
to the beat, you should put in markers. You do this on everybody of the beats
which there could be a conceivable cut which guarantees you know the correct
setting of the cuts. This guarantees they will be more precise and makes the
whole procedure somewhat less
demanding.
To start off with how to beat edit, we need to start off from scratch. So I downloaded the track from YouTube, but you could also use any other platform as long as you can convert the music video into an mp3 or what not. Then I dragged the track into final cut pro, I only listened to a few seconds of the track to get a good feel for what I was dealing with, once I had done that I then went on to the next step. In terms of marking where I wanted the beat to cut I pressed the ‘’m’’ key on final cut, this leaves a mark on the beat of every drop which makes it easier to mix things around. Then I went onto the blade tool and then cut the track in each of the sections which had been marked, this then allowed me to place effects on specific images on the track. Making cuts within one clip was an easier method for me because in that one clip it would always cut back to a significant shot when the beat drops.
In my summer music video, cutting
to the beat was very good at some stages in terms of matching the shots with
the beat to create some sort of mood and atmosphere, but then as the music
video plays on there is no consistensy of the music cutting to the beat, it
cuts but not to a beat It just cuts to the next shot, where as in this previous
work I did, majority of the shots are actually following the beat which makes
it sync nicely and gives it a nice flow.
On the other hand, another
significant strategy use in altering is
synchronizing this is the point at which you sync all your footage for a music
into final cut pro, include the track into polished product then sync it to the
melody ensuring that the footage runs with the tune.
Lip syncing
when lip-syncing you have to make sure it goes with the exclusive footage otherwise it would not look neat and polished. The reason why we lip sync is to establish the artist and to give the artist an image, and also to give the audience a performance type feel of how it would actually feel it it was to be in a concert of some sort. The problem we had when doing our music video during summer was that in terms of lip syncing, we did get some parts neatly but most of it just looked rough and scruffy, i am assuming because we did not match the proper shot to the clip which might have caused a slight delay, hence why some of the lyrics where delivered slightly late.
