Task 2B

Typography
One big limitation is typography, because the font must be readable by the audience. We can see in the BBC news ident most of the fonts are readable but then when it comes to the moving words, they are not really clear. This is a limitation because firstly the tempo is moving to fast and will be needed to slow down to catch the audiences eye, and the font would be needed to be enlarged, but because of the amount of information that is on screen the designers are limited to how big or small they can make the font size.

Size
Size is another limitation when it comes to making idents, this is something the designer of the ident always has to keep in mind. If the ident is too small, it won’t be readable and if it is too big that means there won’t be space for information to appear on the visuals. If we look at the CBBC ident we can see that it is rather big, which has limited the creativity of the surroundings around the logo, because logo is so big they ran out of ideas as to what to do with the empty spaces so they just filled in a bit of green to make it more appealing.

Colour
Colour is a significant limitation, because there are certain colours which cannot be used as they create distortion. This then limits the creator’s creativity and ability to be able to play around and make an ident look as unique as possible. There have been safe colours which have been put in place for TV channels to follow. Before submitting their Show they would need to check the colour safe guidelines and see if they have breached any of the rules, if so they might need to refine the idea. Safe colours are broadcast colours which are under 235, for example Red and Green. In this E4 ident we can see that the colours which are not regarded to be safe Red and Green have been incorporated into the Ident, when they fall down into bricks they become distorted and blury that would be a limitation because they could harm people’s eye sight.

Aspect ratio
This is a limitation, because by not getting the right footage it will create a black boarder around the screen which will be very uncomfortable for the audience to watch. The three types of aspect ratio that are used are , 16:9 this is standard ratio which is incorporated by YouTube Phones and etc. 21:9 which is mostly used in films with high definition cameras. Lastly we have the old aspect ratio barely any one uses these days 4:3 usually used on box TVs’. This is an example of poor aspect ration from the late 70's we can see that the borders have appeared on the side, this makes it uncomfortable for the viewer as they can't see everything that's supposed to be shown.

Resolution
This is a serious problem as it effects the quality of the video, if the resolution is terrible for example we have 144p then the whole video will become pixilated. 720HD is decent but we tend to use 1080p because that is the resolution for most televisions which are out today. There is also a new threat which is 4k, but there is also a limitation to having 4k, 4k is very high definition and its high to the point where. In this ident when you select 1080p its a perfect resolution, but when 4k is selected it makes everything too sharp and too realistic.
