Task 1a

https://www.tiki-toki.com/timeline/entry/762812/Timeline-of-E4-idents/

Task 2B

Typography
One big limitation is typography, because the font must be readable by the audience. We can see in the BBC news ident most of the fonts are readable but then when it comes to the moving words, they are not really clear. This is a limitation because firstly the tempo is moving to fast and will be needed to slow down to catch the audiences eye, and the font would be needed to be enlarged, but because of the amount of information that is on screen the designers are limited to how big or small they can make the font size.

Size
Size is another limitation when it comes to making idents, this is something the designer of the ident always has to keep in mind. If the ident is too small, it won’t be readable and if it is too big that means there won’t be space for information to appear on the visuals. If we look at the CBBC ident we can see that it is rather big, which has limited the creativity of the surroundings around the logo, because logo is so big they ran out of ideas as to what to do with the empty spaces so they just filled in a bit of green to make it more appealing.

Colour
Colour is a significant limitation, because there are certain colours which cannot be used as they create distortion. This then limits the creator’s creativity and ability to be able to play around and make an ident look as unique as possible. There have been safe colours which have been put in place for TV channels to follow. Before submitting their Show they would need to check the colour safe guidelines and see if they have breached any of the rules, if so they might need to refine the idea. Safe colours are broadcast colours which are under 235, for example Red and Green. In this E4 ident we can see that the colours which are not regarded to be safe Red and Green have been incorporated into the Ident, when they fall down into bricks they become distorted and blury that would be a limitation because they could harm people’s eye sight.

Aspect ratio
This is a limitation, because by not getting the right footage it will create a black boarder around the screen which will be very uncomfortable for the audience to watch. The three types of aspect ratio that are used are , 16:9 this is standard ratio which is incorporated by YouTube Phones and etc. 21:9 which is mostly used in films with high definition cameras. Lastly we have the old aspect ratio barely any one uses these days 4:3 usually used on box TVs’. This is an example of poor aspect ration from the late 70's we can see that the borders have appeared on the side, this makes it uncomfortable for the viewer as they can't see everything that's supposed to be shown.

Resolution
This is a serious problem as it effects the quality of the video, if the resolution is terrible for example we have 144p then the whole video will become pixilated. 720HD is decent but we tend to use 1080p because that is the resolution for most televisions which are out today. There is also a new threat which is 4k, but there is also a limitation to having 4k, 4k is very high definition and its high to the point where. In this ident when you select 1080p its a perfect resolution, but when 4k is selected it makes everything too sharp and too realistic.

Task 2A

Creation of Corporate identity
This is an opportunity, because it allows the channels identity to be recognized by the target audience. Also another positive thing about this is that, the TV channel will have the chance to make their ident stand out from competitors and be unique. This will then create a personality for the TV channel and allow the audience to understand the ident and also it encourages brand loyalty. If we look at the BBC news ident we can see that they are very unique because no channel has incorporated that type of creativity before. We can see that there is a circle which is linked to the BBC as a trend they keep having, the circle represents the world and we see the maps and words telling us locations of capitals of certain countries. This tells the audience straight away that they cover a range of news from all over the world.

Creation of Tone
This is an opportunity as well, because it enables the audience to feel some type of way towards an ident. Now if we take a look at this MTV Base ident, we can see already there’s a lot of movement and effects that have been implemented into the movement. For me the tone which this is giving off is an energetic feel, because we can see the little squares on his body vibrating every time the drop comes in and it reinforces the idea of moving to the beat and just being energetic. Although with an ident like this not everyone will read into the same type of Tone that it give off.

Appeal to target audience
This is an opportunity because the ident would appeal to the target audience. The target audience for film for are Males who are 18+, for example if we look at the film 4 ident the car chase this would be the perfect example. We can see clearly this is appealing to its target audience because it’s a TV channel which broadcast loads of action movies, and the ident is an action scene which tells the audience what the channel shows and what they would be expecting to see. We can even see that they have incorporated the idea of multi screen, which shows the audience the view of the action from different perspectives.

Encouragement of Brand Loyalty
Creating Brand Loyalty, this is significant in terms of audience. This keeps encourages the audience to keep watching the same channel without having to seek the entertainment or information they are looking for from another channel. For example we can see this Nickelodeon ident it’s a mixture of all the characters that are shown on Nickelodeon in almost like one gallery, but each line would have a different picture on it. This keeps brand loyalty because the audience will like what they see, and also they will know what they expect to air on this TV channel.

Branding of content

We can see Sky Sports 1; have branded their channel and what they show on there by having football as their ident. Football is one of the main things that dominate this channel so this is also good for Brand loyalty because it keeps the audience coming back as they know this is place where they can find certain information that they are looking for. Sky have branded football by capturing them in a team and adding slow motion onto it to emphasize that they need one and other in order to win the match. This also links to the ''1'' in the sky, suggesting no matter where people come from or what they look like they are all 1 and there should be no discrimination when it comes to playing football.

3.3 Task 1: Report on Design and Purposes

BBC News ident- Identity

This is an example of a TV channel who are portraying their identity through their ident, and it makes it very clear who they are and what they are about/do. When we say Identity we are talking about what the channel represent and what they want to be seen as. On screen we can see this big circle which links to who the BBC are they are global and see everyone as 1. The fact that we can see this circle and a map tells the audience that they cover a range a stories from around the world, and not only in the UK. Then we can see moving words stating for example ''Madrid'' which is the capital of Spain and another example that was on screen was ''Berlin'' which is the capital of Germany, again we can see that they are reinforcing the diversity theory. This links to the Design of information-led because the information we see on screen is very detailed just by looking at the maps and little words circulating. The screen tempo moves at a rather quick rate, this links into space and time because the duration of this ident is less than 15 seconds long. i believe this ident does interact with the audience because it gives then an insight into the locations of where different news comes from and where they are broadcast, furthermore the circle also interacts with the audience as they are part of the BBC's World . The use of red also links to the BBC, and the logo which has been placed right in the center of the ident gives off the fact that they report news.

Star wars - Sky Movies- Marketing

A case of an ident that utilization promoting is the Sky motion pictures Star Wars ident. In this ident the plan of it was to join a motion picture that they are communicating or offering inside their channel, into the ident. For this situation this ident was utilized to advance it and utilize it as a path for the audience to watch the Star Wars. This is a promoting system that can be utilized by TV slots, firstly, to help remind the watcher about what channel they are watching, yet to likewise publicize the character and marking of the channel to their target audience. The Screen tempo is at a medium pace, however there are some intriguing segments where the shots cut rapidly, this is to keep the audiences attention, as we probably am aware individuals have limited capacity to focus nowadays and they require something to keep them drew in else they block out. The ident connects with the audience since its showing them whats going on in this film and by cutting shots rapidly into each other it makes a peak this then connects to amusement of entertainment-led since it concentrates on a specific target audience.

BBC one - packaging and re-packing

This basically implies when a TV channel need to change their ident to adjust to a specific season, or to a noteworthy event that is going to happen, then they base the ident around that thought, and ensuring the visuals relate aswell. For instance if we somehow happened to be in winter, an ident designer would make a suite of idents for winter and after that modify them all with the goal that they get to be distinctly adequate to the target audience it appeals to. At that point he would set each ident to show up between programmes just to reinforce its winter. With this BBC one ident we can see from the visuals this ident has been made to target either nature or a late spring event, an ident could have various implications behind it and it most cases there is constantly more than one.

BBC three - Segmentation and scheduling

This implies when you hear a voice over amid an ident while it is playing. scheduling  is whats next that is coming up. We can see that BBC three have joined both segmentation and scheduling into this ident. Having the visuals there alone may just profit certain individuals yet with the voice over it aides and separates it for individuals who won't  get it straight away when they are looking at the visuals. BBC three is focused at youngsters and the name of the show was " dawn gets naked'' we can find in the corner a lady in a burkini and another man in boxers this radiates the feeling of what will be circulated next. Additionally the colour of pink and purple recommend that this will include ladies/young ladies and the purple connotes a touch of blended feeling originating from two parties, this could be male and female. The duration for which the ident continues for is vital, because they need to get across as much information as they can for the target audience to be able to understand it.

Sky sports 1 - Branding

As we probably am aware as of now sky sports deliver content which respects to sports. By looking at this ident we can tell straight away that it will be about football, Sky sports 1 dependably relate their idents and games effortlessly for the target audience  to peruse into without any inconveniences or work out. The positioning of the Logo is fairly key, it has been put directly into the center to fortify the significance of the channel and what they communicate on that channel. This ties in with the Design as it is information-led, later on in the ident we can hear a voice over which is telling the audience what is on screen. They utilize the blue and red colours again there could be such a variety of various readings into that, to me that propose red are aggressive games for example rugby and blue relaxed sports. Through this we can see that the personality this channel are trying to portray themselves as is friendly, this could also tie into the fact that they show a lot of friendly games on the channel.

Christmas Prep work

Task 1

Channel’s Identity: ‘’ Identity suggest that it’s specific’’ so we know that different channels would have different identities. The ident would have to reflect what the audience see on screen, so for example if we look at BBC news ident we can see that what we have on screen would relate to the audience as we can see the BBC news logo and all these different types of information revolving around it, it also tells us they cover a wide range of news.

To brand the Channel: promoting you’re channel this could be via advertisers, in order to spread you’re channel and get more viewers or get more people interested in that channel.

Brand loyalty: definitely the audience would know if they like what they are seeing or watching on screen if we look at BBC news, they would have a wide audience, the channel depend on the audience to give them feedback if they is anything they would want to see of if there is something they would like to be made different that is what we call brand loyalty, because the audience are interacting with their daily channel.

To market: marketing is another way or promoting a brand, this could be via DVD or even online social sites, Facebook twitter and what not, this helps boost the brand because it’s getting around quickly.

Provide information: An ident has to be clear about what its channel is doing and what they do, back to BBC news they have their logo and then different information flying around the screen, as well as there being a map to inform us that they cover a range of stories from all over the world.

Re-branding the Channel: Re-branding the channel simply means when a Tv Channel replaces or changes their ident multiple times to keep up with the changes that are happening, for example if Channel 4 had an ident from 2010 and we are not in 2017, they would most definitely change it to keep up with the time period.

Segmentation: After a show has just finished there will be a voice over of someone speaking and introducing the next programmes that will be shown on the channel, I think this is a good way of maintaining a channel.

Task 2

BBC News ident
This ident I find it really interesting but it also has its own downfalls, Its interesting because the BBC logo is in the middle and then we have worlds circling the world/map, this is very creative as there are lots of meaning into it
Limitation of this would be that, when the words are moving they are not really slow enough for the audience to be able to tune in and capture their attention, as well as other words not really being clear, and it’s unfair on the audience to have to squint their eyes just to try and get that little bit of information.
In terms of tempo, the tempo was quick and it flowed well with what was moving around on screen this also reflects the BBC news, because most of their news which are given are quick fire.
I believe the ident interact with the audience because it gives them a quick summary and insight into what they are about and what they do, as we can see the world and different words floating around and we can see faint lines of something which looks like a map, this tells the audience that the BBC cover a range of stories from all over the world, and the demographic for this would be the upper class because that is who it appeal to.

Channel 4 ident
We can see that channel 4 where very creative using almost like cages or crates where fruits and other things are stored to create the logo for their channel, this could suggest that channel 4 are multicultural.

in terms of tempo, the camera is moving a little bit fast while the people we see on screen are slowed down, there for our attention is only on the big 4 which we can see on screen.

Limitation the ident does not make clear what the channel are about or perhaps what they show on their channel, there may be some hints and what not but it is not really clear as to what they are, unlike the BBC news one which was clear from the get go.

The positioning of the Log in right in the middle therefore that is the main eye contact and that is what appeals more to the audience, because the people moving have been slowed down it makes it seem as if there is nothing there apart from the Big 4 hence why all our attention is focused on that one location. Bits of what was needed to make the 4 where almost hung on the wires then when the camera man was moving it looks like the 4 was breaking formation.

E4 ident
We can see that E4 have linked their logo to what they show on their channel, we can see that also stock motion has been used to create this ident. we can see 4 trucks from Bob the builder and we can see a robot, we know that the trucks in their own shows save people and we know the robot kills and destroys things, E4 have put both together to portray survival and attacking. when the robot shoots his gun we can see that E4 have implicated that they cast action stuff on their channel.

Tempo of the stock motion was slow, because stock motion is actually slow unless its sped up by using effects and what not, there were some points when in a blink of an eye the trucks would just appear somewhere, there is possibly some meaning behind it

In terms of positioning we can see that the E4 was put behind the truck then after defeating the robot was placed in the middle and then ironed out the truck, this tells us that the trucks have completed their objectives so it must be portraying that E4 always complete their objective when it comes to keeping up to date

CBBC ident

Cbbc ident which they have done a good job portraying who their target audience are, we can see that there are lots of cartoon characters and also they have implicated lots of comedy during this ident to make the kids laugh and the layout and structure of it makes it appeal to the little ones, because this would most certainly not appeal to a 30 year old man or woman

Nickolodeon Ident
We can see this is very similar tho the CBBC ident, this only incporates faces of different cartoon characters from various shows which are aired on their channel, we wouldn't say this is for kids aswell this would appeal to more young teenagers so from 10-15 where as kids would be from around 2-9 or there abouts. I like the idea of their ident a various change of faces to give an insight to the audience what they will expect to see on their TV channel

Film 4 ident
i really like this ident because it summarizes what Film 4 are about and what they mostly air on their TV channel, we have a slo-mo of a car chase and it has been really slowed down for the audience in order for them to look at the car and just to take in the visuals really, and then we have different views from the car once it has landed, one view from the side and one from the back the front and then we see the tires fleeing off, to tell u that the landing was very hard. This tells us that Film 4 air a lot of car chasing movies and action movies which also incorporate the police in most of their moves that they air
Tempo is really slow, this is because they want to catch the viewers attention, hence why they added multi clips and slowed it down so the audience would have time to analyse each section in time before it runs out.
